Relations between Angolans and Kenyans date from the Angolan colonial period with the “ Nakuru and Mombasa”  meetings in 1974 promoted by the founder of the Kenyan Nation, President Jomo Kenyatta with the aim of joining Angola’s  three liberation movements around a common vision for the main objective of achieving Angola's independence.

However, relations between the two countries met the highest point in 2012 with the signing of four legal instruments, namely;

(1) The General Agreement on economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation;

2) The Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministry of External Relations of Angola and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Kenya;

(3) The Agreement on the Establishment of the Bilateral Commission and;

4) The Agreement for Air Services Operation between and beyond their territories in the field of transport.

In addition Kenya Airways that operates the Nairobi - Luanda route with two weekly flights, in general we can say that there has not yet been the effective materialization of the legal instruments signed in 2012.

Six years after the date of the signing of the above-mentioned agreements, the trip to Angola by Kenya's Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mrs. Monica Juma, on 22 June 2018, on an official visit, produced another boost to the relationships between the two countries.

During her visit, the delegations of Angola and Kenya headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Manuel Augusto and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Monica Juma addressed issues related to bilateral cooperation in political-diplomatic, economic-commercial and cultural domains.

On the same occasion, the Minister, Ambassador Monica Juma was received by the President of the Republic of Angola , His Excellency João Lourenço and the Head of the State of Angola reaffirmed the interest in strengthening the political and economic cooperation between the two countries.

While in Angola, The Minister, Ambassador Monica Juma delivered a lecture on Security and Peace in Africa, at the Law School of Agostinho Neto University.
