Luanda ::

The Ambassador Sianga Abilio said on November 11, 2022, in Nairobi, that Angola today is a country at peace with political stability and a continental economic powerhouse that within a few months may reoccupy the post of third largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa with a GDP of 124 billion US Dollars.

According to Ambassador Sianga Abilio, who was speaking at the event commemorating the 47th Anniversary of  Angola National Independence, the priority of our country's government is the consolidation of democracy through the strengthening of democratic institutions, the fight against corruption, the diversification of the economy and the consequent creation of a good business environment conducive to investors, both local and foreign and for this reason, he took the opportunity to once again invite Kenyan businessmen to invest in Angola.

Ambassador Sianga Abílio said that based on existing bilateral agreements between Angola and Kenya, such as the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation; the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministry of External Relations of Angola and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya; the Agreement on the Creation of the bilateral Commission and the Agreement for the Operation of Air Services between and beyond the respective territories, in the transport field, the idea now is to move on to a new and broader package of agreements and thus open up a highway for boosting cooperation with the reciprocal protection of the two states, citing as an example agreements in the sectors of Higher Education, Culture, Tourism, Forestry, Telecommunications, Agriculture, Finance, Oil and Gas, and others.

Also in the chapter on cooperation and following the principle of interdependence, the Angolan ambassador to Kenya said that there were sectors in which sharing know-how would undoubtedly benefit both countries at a time when Angola has deep knowledge of the oil industry from upstream to downstream; has wood production that can serve the Kenyan market, and now that it launched its own communications satellite, ANGOSAT2, into space last October, who knows, the ambassador noted, Angola may provide telecommunications services to Kenya in the near future.

From Kenya, Ambassador said, Angola is interested in its experience in Agriculture, tea and flower industry, tourism, including safari tourism, higher education and much more.

In the speech alluding to the Independence Day, Ambassador Sianga Abílio highlighted the diplomatic efforts of the President of the Republic of Angola, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, as Chairman of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, whose success could be demonstrated with the re-opening of the border between Rwanda and Uganda in January 2022, the release of Rwandan soldiers by the DRC last June and the constant reconciliation Summits between the Presidents of Uganda and Rwanda and between the Presidents of the DRC and Rwanda.

In the chapter on the mediation of the President of the Republic of Angola, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, the Ambassador Sianga Abílio also highlighted the trip of the Angolan Head of State to Kigali to meet the President Paul Kagame and the beginning of functions, in Goma, of the Ad-Hoc Verification Mechanism for monitoring the Implementation of the Luanda Roadmap, headed by Angolan General Nassone João.

The ceremony commemorating the 47th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Angola had a political and cultural momentum and was attended by the Ambassador Moi Lemoshira, Director General for Bilateral and Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representing the Government of the Republic of Kenya, the United Nations Under Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, which is the United Nations Programme for Human Settlements, members of the Diplomatic Corps, the Angolan community residing in Kenya, Kenyan and other nationalities guests.
