The city of Nairobi hosted on 13 and 14 July 2023, the 43rd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union.

The meeting took place under the theme of the year 2023: "Accelerating the Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area" and aimed to consider the Report of the 46th Ordinary Session of the Committee of Permanent Representatives and to analyse the Synthesis Document and Roadmap of the African Union's Theme of the Year 2024 on Education. 

During the two days, the participants in the 43rd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union also analysed the Report of the Ministerial Committee for African Candidatures in the International System, as well as submitting to the Council for consideration, Information on the Institutional Reform of the African Union and the 2063 Agenda.

Ambassador Téte António, Minister of External Affairs, led the Angolan delegation at the event, which included, among others, Finance Minister Vera Daves, who chairs the African Union Ministerial Committee on the Scale of Assessment and Contributions, Ambassador Jorge Cardoso, Director for Africa, the Middle East and Regional Organisations at MIREX, Miguel Bembe, Angola's Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Sianga Abílio, Angola's Ambassador to Kenya and Permanent Representative of Angola to the United Nations Offices in Nairobi.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Dr. Alfred Mutua, Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya.
