Ambassador Sianga Abílio received, on 31st January 2024, Mr Sultan Hajiyev, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Kenya, at the Angolan Chancellery in Nairobi. 

During the meeting the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Kenya who is also his country's Permanent Representative to the UN Offices in Nairobi, informed his Angolan counterpart that the next United Nations Climate Summit (COP29) will be held at the end of this year in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

At the meeting the Azerbaijani ambassador took the opportunity to announce his country's intention to present its candidacy for membership of ECOSOC (United Nations Economic and Social Council) in New York in June 2024.  

Furthermore, according to Ambassador Sultan Hajiyev, Azerbaijan is preparing to host the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF) in 2026.  

Ambassador Sianga Abílio thanked the Azerbaijani Ambassador for his visit to the Angolan Embassy and said that Angola considers Azerbaijan a partner country with which it would like to deepen its political and economic relations, according to Ambassador Sianga Abílio, that desire was also addressed in Kampala at the meeting that Ambassador Téte António, Minister of External Relations, held with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, on the sidelines of the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.
