The first day of the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis was marked by speeches focusing on the need to achieve peace and reconciliation for the people of South Sudan.

The leader of the Catholic Church Pope Francis told at an audience of government leaders, diplomats and civil society members that he is in Juba as a "pilgrim of peace and reconciliation", while the President of the Republic of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit took the opportunity to declare 2023 as the Year of Peace and National Reconciliation.

Meanwhile Ambassador Sianga Abílio is expected to meet, on February 06, with the Minister of Petroleum,  Puot Kang Chol and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mayiik Ayii Deng, in separate audiences.

It is important to remember that at the accreditation ceremony of Engineer Sianga Abílio, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Angola in South Sudan with residence in Nairobi, the President of the Republic of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit considered Angola as a brother country, having reiterated the fact that the Republic of Angola has contributed with material, political and diplomatic support during the liberation struggle of his country.
